Top Five Things To Do In Betws-y-Coed
As our Riverside Touring Park reopens for the new season, we’ve put together five things to do in and around Betws-y-Coed to give you some inspiration for your next Snowdonia holiday!
Sample a Beautiful Welsh Cream Tea in the Ugly House
With origins shrouded in mystery, Ty Hyll (otherwise known as the Ugly House) is now a cosy and welcoming building located three miles from our Riverside Touring Park.
Although it is not known when the house was built, or by whom, there are plenty of intriguing rumours that have spanned over the centuries!
According to legend, it was tradition in the 15th century that a house built over one night could be claimed by the builders as their property as long as there was a chimney smoking by dawn.
Whether this is the origin story of Ty Hyll, or whether it was built by labourers or robbers, this iconic building is far from ugly with its stone walls and quaint atmosphere.
Now home to the Pot Mêl tearoom, a wildlife garden and the Honeybee Room (where you can learn all about the honeybee), this is a perfect place to rest and take a break from your Betws-y-Coed adventures.
Cross a Bridge Over Beautiful Water
With the Afon Llugwy and Afon Conwy flowing through the village, Betws-y-Coed is home to some beautiful bridges that offer fantastic views of the enchanting landscape.
The most famous is the Pont-y-Pair bridge, with its five arches and stone construction. The oldest bridge in Betws-y-Coed, it was built in the 1500s to create a crossing for travellers from England to reach Conwy.
Now an iconic location in the village and the perfect picture postcard spot, the bridge is a must-see when visiting Betws-y-Coed and offers beautiful views over the cascading Afon Llugwy river.
A ten-minute walk away from Riverside Touring Park, the name Pont-y-Pair translates as “Bridge of the Cauldron” and you can hear the roar and bubbling of the river from the bridge.
Other notable bridges with picture postcard views are the newly restored Miners Bridge, and the Sappers Suspension Bridge (closed for refurbishment at the time of writing).
Find a Fairytale at Fairy Glen Gorge
A magical place that has inspired folklore and tales of faeries, mystical toadstools and other fantastical stories, the Fairy Glen Gorge is a breath-taking place to visit.
Feel like you have been transported to a fantasy world as you walk through a stunning gorge framed by trees that rise above water rapids and flowing cascades.
Located just over 2 miles away from our Riverside Touring Park, the Fairy Glen Gorge is an enchanting place to spend an hour or two walking through the glorious scenery.
The gorge is on private land, so there is a small charge for visitors, and be prepared with your walking boots as some of the natural pathways are a bit steeper and slippy when raining.
Fly Through the Trees at Zip World Fforest
If you’re feeling more adventurous, Zip World Fforest is a must for all thrill-seekers and is less than two miles from our Riverside Touring Park.
Feel the speed on the Fforest Coaster, the only alpine coaster in the UK that will whizz you through the forest on a toboggan-style track.
You can also brave the heights of the Skyride 2, Plummet 2 and Zip Safari 2 and soar amongst the treetops on gravity-driven swings, zip lines and trapdoor drops.
After you’ve worked up an appetite on your daring adventures, head to the Fforest Caffi to refuel on the locally sourced menu.
Experience the Treasures and Produce of Snowdonia
