The Shrewsbury  Cartoon Festival is an annual event at which a small army of professional cartoonists from all over the UK and overseas meets up to draw and paint cartoons and caricatures for the general public. The event draws a huge audience every year with its centrepiece being the live drawing of about 15 enormous cartoons in Shrewsbury Town Square, along with live caricaturing by some of the UK’s top professionals. There are also a number of cartoon workshops for aspiring cartoonists to take part in and exhibitions to look at.

Attractions include displays of vintage vehicles of every kind including cars, motorbikes, tractors, military vehicles, steam engines, stationary engines, Land Rovers, Commercials and many interesting static exhibits. There is something of interest for all the family including Craft and Trade stalls, autojumble, fairground rides, shire horses and the well frequented beer tent and refreshment stands.

Visitors to the Festival will get to see the teams building their rafts using exactly the same ration of barrels, pallets and rope in only one hour. After being carried to a pontoon, launched and paddled upstream to collect a team member from the opposite riverbank, the rafts will then be paddled back downstream, where they’ll need to be hoisted onto a waiting lorry in order to complete the course.

Thousands of people are set to enjoy the 2016 Shrewsbury Carnival & Show where the theme will be Carnival Goes to the Movies. The carnival will begin in Shrewsbury’s Quarry Park at 10am with a full programme of entertainment, stalls and shows. At 2pm the parade with themed floats, walking groups, marching bands and dancers will take to the streets of the town centre.

The 13.1 mile route will take in the picturesque scenes of the stunning historic town centre including St Chad’s Church, Shrewsbury Cathedral and the Quarry, ending up at the West Mid Showground. UKRunChat have plans for an Athletes village and family entertainment at the Showground. They are also organising plenty of spot prizes to be given out to runners.

A two day event in the Quarry in Shrewsbury with around 200 exhibitors, free talks and demos, kids entertainment, live music and much more! Some of Shrewsbury’s finest chefs will stage demonstrations; where you can see how they create their award-winning dishes. There’ll be plenty more besides. The show is one of the largest events of its type in the United Kingdom. It is also one of the longest-running shows in the country and featured in the 2005 Guinness Book of Records as the "longest-running flower show" in the world. The show features: the display of flowers, fruit and vegetables; the sale of arts and crafts and three military bands, show jumping, various forms of music and entertainment, which includes a large firework display on both evenings. The show typically attracts around 60,000 visitors over two days. Chef celebrities, such as James Martin and 'The Hairy Bikers', annually practice demonstrations to the public.

Shrewsbury Steam Rally is a fantastic two day event that takes place at Onslow Park. Each year it attracts thousands of people to marvel at the site of steam-powered vehicles of all kinds in action and on static display. There will also be parades of all kinds of other vehicles, from historic lorries and classic cars, to heavy horses and even a birds of prey display.

SYTri (Shrewsbury Triathlon Club) stage the event which provides a unique 500m river swim, followed by a fast 23K undulating bike course on country roads. Finishing with a 5K flat & fast traffic free run inside the showground on mixed surface paths. Excellent race for both beginners and experienced athletes looking for a PB!
