Shrewsbury aiming to be Britain's tastiest town for a weekend in June

The quality fresh food and drink of Shropshire and the county’s army of artisan producers will be celebrated at Shrewsbury Food Festival over the weekend June 28 and 29.

Around 200 exhibitors will be showcasing their products in the beautiful courtyard setting of Shrewsbury’s Quarry Park over the weekend.

The organisers are confident of making Shrewsbury Britain’s tastiest town for the weekend, with food and drink to suit all tastes and budgets.

Some of the nation’s favourite chefs, including Marcus Bean and Will Holland, will be demonstrating their skills as they cook with the wealth of fresh Shropshire ingredients. There will also be foodie films, wine tasting and tours at Tanners Wines, pudding tastings and much more on offer to visitors.

“As far as we’re concerned, Shropshire has the best artisan producers in the UK,” said a festival spokesman. “That’s one of the many reasons why we believe our festival is the tastiest of all.  We’ve got the best butchers, smokers, bakers, brewers, cheese makers, chocolatiers, meat curers, vegetable growers, fruit pickers, oil producers and fish mongers.

“We have hand-picked more than 200 artisan producers and they will give visitors a taste of Shrewsbury in our courtyard arena.”

Caravanners and motorhome owners who plan to attend the festival are being pointed in the direction of a welcoming five star caravan park on the edge of the town.

Oxon Hall Touring Park, located in attractive parkland close to the A5, is open all year round and is perfect for exploring Shrewsbury the Welsh Marches. The park can accommodate 100 touring caravans, 60 caravan holiday homes and has special pitches for recreational vehicles (RVs).

“Caravanners like the quality, parkland location of Oxon on the edge of Shrewsbury,” said park owner Edward Goddard, managing director of Shrewsbury-based Morris Leisure. “The big advantage the park has is that it is just a short walk from the town’s Park and Ride bus service, which allows caravan and motorhome owners to travel into town without having to drive.”

Other major events in Shrewsbury’s 2014 diary are: Shrewsbury Flower Show on August 8-9, Shrewsbury Folk Festival on August 22-25 and the County of Salop Steam Rally on August 24 and 25.

These events attract thousands of visitors to the town and Oxon Hall Touring Park is advising caravanners to book their pitches early to avoid disappointment. Contact Tel: 01743 340868 or visit www.morris-leisure.co.ukfor more information.
