If you’re staying at a Morris Leisure Touring Park in Shropshire over the Easter holidays then Blists Hill Victorian Town has to be on your list of places to visit.
Close to Stanmore Hall Touring Park in Bridgnorth, and within easy reach of their caravan, RV and motorhome touring parks in Shrewsbury and Ludlow, Blists Hill offers a host of family activities throughout the holiday period for all ages.
There’s a variety of fun drop-in activities from dipping fabulously colourful candles, building a wall with mini-bricks to discovering Morse code and picture colouring of Victorian scenes.
The fun kicks off on Saturday 28 March and runs through until Sunday 12 April with children from as young as five getting to enjoy the liquid wax to create their own striped multi-coloured candles; they can also see a full demonstration of Victorian candle making.
Meanwhile they can also try their hand at mini-brick laying; learning how to build a wall using different ‘brick bonds’ to see which gives the strongest walls, afterwards spotting the different patterns as they walk around the Town.
Over at the Victorian Post Office, they can see how telegrams would have been sent using Morse code before tapping out their own messages on a telegraph key.
A visit to Blists Hill wouldn’t be complete without chatting to the Townsfolk in their shops and cottages, and getting the chance to find out about curious remedies in the Pharmacy or watching all the traditional skills in action at the printers, candle makers and decorative plasterers; there’s even a sing-a-long in the New Inn Pub.
Visit the Fried Fish Dealers for lunch where you can buy a portion of traditionally prepared fish and chips or the Bakers where the smell of freshly baked bread is sure to tempt!
Meanwhile just a mile or so up the road the season kicks off at the Severn Valley Railway with celebrations to mark the start of their 50th Year. The Spring Steam Gala runs from 20th - 22nd March.
