2023 Events To Look Out For in Shropshire, Herefordshire and North Wales

If you are planning to visit our parks in 2023, why not check out the local events in Shropshire, Herefordshire and Snowdonia?

We have put together the events to look out for in 2023 to help you plan your stay. Be sure to book with us early for some of these events, as they can be very popular!

Shrewsbury

If you are staying at our Oxon Hall Touring Park in Shrewsbury this year, here are some key dates for your diary:

When: Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th June

Where: The Quarry Park, Shrewsbury, SY1 1RN

Get those tastebuds tingling at the Shrewsbury Food Festival! With over 180 stalls brimming with food, drink and artisan crafts, you can discover live music plus cookery demos and hands-on classes.

When: Friday 11th and Saturday 12th August

Where: The Quarry Park, Shrewsbury, SY1 1RN

The biggest event in the Shrewsbury calendar, the Flower Show attracts visitors from across the country. Marvel at beautiful floral displays before stopping to take in celebrity chef talks and demonstrations, plus live music and a variety of craft and food stalls. 

When: Friday 25th to Monday 28th August

Where: West Midlands Showground, Shrewsbury, SY1 2PF

From newcomers to the music scene to established musicians, the Shrewsbury Folk Festival has a huge range of live music performances. With on-site catering, bars and a craft fair, this festival is fun for all the family.

When: Sunday 27th and Monday 28th August

Where: Onslow Park, SY3 5EE

Step back in time and enjoy over 1000 exhibits at the Shrewsbury Steam Rally, from steam-powered engines to vintage cars, fairground rides and even prams! Watch the vehicles parade through the Main Arena, or see demonstrations of traditional farming techniques from the last century in the Working Field.

When: Friday 6th & Saturday 7th October

Where: The Quarry Park, Shrewsbury, SY1 1RN

Discover 150 ciders, ales, gins, cocktails, wine and more at the Shropshire Oktoberfest. Sit back and enjoy comedy acts and live music, including a silent disco, or grab a tasty bite from the street food vendors.


Ludlow

A town of festivals, there is plenty to fill your calendar with in Ludlow - right on the doorstep of our Ludlow Touring Park:

When: Friday 12th to Sunday 14th May

Where: Ludlow Rugby Club, SY8 1EE

Tickle those tastebuds and explore over 60 food and drink exhibitors from Ludlow and the Welsh Marches. From cheese mongers to chocolatiers, there will be plenty of tasty treats available at the Ludlow Spring Festival, plus live music and over 100 classic vehicles.

When: Saturday 17th June to Sunday 2nd July

Where: Ludlow

Explore arts and culture in many forms through the Ludlow Fringe Festival. From live music, celebrity interviews, theatre productions, comedy shows and sports interviews, there is a fantastic range of events for all the family.

When: Sunday 25th June

Where: Richard's Castle, SY8 4ET

Fun for all the family, visit the Soap Box Derby and watch wonderful and wacky homemade cars race along the track, whilst also exploring the food vendors, bar and bouncy castle for the little ones.

When: Sunday 13th August

Where: Marches countryside (exact route TBC)

Enjoy a ramble and local produce as you follow the Magnalonga trail through the beautiful countryside. Stop at refreshment points along the way and taste delicious meals made from local produce, as well as locally sourced drinks such as ale, cider and water.

When: Friday 8th September to Sunday 10th September

Where: Ludlow Castle, SY8 1AY

A firm favourite for all the foodies, the Ludlow Food Festival features a wonderful array of food activities, from chef appearances and talks, to trails, masterclasses and workshops. Explore local produce from talented exhibitors and discover a mouth-watering variety of tasty goodies.

When: Date TBC, likely end of November

Where: Ludlow

Feel the festive spirit at Ludlow Winter Festival with events held across multiple days. Find treasure at the Christmas markets, meet Santa, and take part in workshops and events before the Christmas lights switch on. The 2023 event has not been announced at time of writing, but keep an eye on their website for updates.


Bridgnorth

From steam trains to the 1940s, if you're visiting our Stanmore Hall Touring Park here are some Bridgnorth events for 2023:

When: Friday 14th to Sunday 16th April 

Where: Severn Valley Railway

The Severn Valley Railway will be hosting its popular Spring Gala, where visitors can step back in time and take a journey on vintage steam trains. With dining options available, this is a fantastic event for all the family.

When: Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th June, and Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd July

Where: Severn Valley Railway

Be transported to the Blitz era through two weekends of rip-roaring fun at the Severn Valley Railway. With things to see and do at stations along the 16-mile railway, you can learn to jive, witness a 1940's wedding, find a bargain at the black market traders or listen to a speech from Winston Churchill.

When: Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th July

Where: Wolverhampton Halfpenny Green Airport

Step back in time and visit this 1940's event, with military re-enactments and classic vehicles, living history displays, vintage trade stalls and fair, plus fantastic 'live' fire power displays.

When: TBC (usually September)

Where: Severn Valley Railway

Discover up to 50 ales, ciders and perries at the Bridgnorth Beer Festival. Hosted by Severn Valley Railway, the 2023 event has not been announced at the time of posting so visit the website for further updates.


Llanberis

A haven for those looking for outdoor adventure, there are plenty of events on the doorstep of our Llanberis Touring Park in 2023:

When: Friday 12th to Sunday 14th May

Where: Start point in Llanberis, Snowdonia

Test your running ability and take on the Ultra Trail Snowdonia. Starting in Llanberis, there are various routes to take part in that traverse mountain trails across Snowdonia and reward runners with breathtaking views along the way.

When: Saturday 13th May

Where: Caernarfon

Take a stroll through the various stalls at Caernarfon Food Festival, each one brimming with freshly cooked food, or try tasty samples of food and drink and watch a live cooking demonstration. There are a variety of activities for all the family.

When: Saturday 10th to Sunday 11th June

Where: Llanberis

Starting in Llanberis, tackle this challenging triathlon through the breathtaking scenery of Snowdonia. Swim in the refreshing waters of Llyn Padarn, cycle through Beddgelert and around Snowdon, before running a course that travels a 2km climb through Dinorwic Slate Quarry. 

When: Saturday 17th June

Where: Padarn Country Park, Llanberis

Take on a 3.5km swimming course through Llyn Padarn as part of the Love SwimRun Llanberis, before tackling a 12.5km run through stunning Snowdonia scenery navigating woodlands and mountainous quarries.

When: Saturday 28th October

Where: Llanberis

Voted the Best British Marathon twice, the Snowdonia Marathon Eyri starts in Llanberis and circles around Snowdon. Runners will navigate Llanberis Pass, through Beddgelert and Waunfawr, before climbing at Bwlch y Groes.


Betws-y-Coed

Step back in time to the Victorian era or rack up those steps on a half-marathon, here are some key events only a short distance away from our Riverside Touring Park.

When: Saturday 29th April to Monday 1st May

Where: Llandudno

Be transported back to Victorian times at the Llandudno Victorian Extravaganza and discover vintage attractions and entertainments, plus a Victorian fun fair. Watch parades of steam and vintage vehicles, marvel at magicians and enjoy circus performances.

When: Friday 14th to Sunday 16th July, and Saturday 22nd to Sunday 23rd July

Where: Conwy Bay, Conwy

With two separate events held, the LA-LA Rally and a racing weekend, sailors can challenge their sea-faring skills through races and routes to Caernarfon (with challenges along the way and prizes up for grabs).

When: Saturday 18th November

Where: Betws-y-Coed

With three different routes available, a 5k, 10k or half-marathon, each one starts in Betws-y-Coed. Navigating around Llyn Elsi, each challenging route takes runners around the lake and through a total elevation of 700m.


Herefordshire

Philosophy, music and cider are just a few of the treats lined up in the 2023 Herefordshire event calendar. Keep these dates in your diary if you are visiting our Poston Mill Touring Park this year.

When: Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th April

Where: Ross-on-Wye

Discover a wide range of beer and cider at this two-day festival, and relax with a beverage whilst listening to live music from regional bands and artists.

When: Tuesday 2nd to Thursday 4th May 

Where: Hereford

Taking place for over 900 years, the Hereford May Fair is a staple in the Hereford calendar. Beginning with a ceremonial proclamation, where the Mayor offers 12-and-a-half bushels of wheat to the Lord Bishop, the fair features food, side shows and a variety of thrilling fairground rides. 

When: Sunday 14th May

Where: Hereford Livestock Market, HR4 7AN

Regarded as Herefordshire's most popular running event, RUN Hereford has routes spanning over 5K, 10K or a half marathon that navigate through the stunning countryside of Herefordshire.

When: Friday 26th May to Monday 29th May

Where: Off Newport Street, Hay-on-Wye, HR3 5BZ

Located alongside the river Wye, HowTheLightGetsIn is the world's largest music and philosophy festival. Leading thinkers from around the world offer visitors the chance to debate and discuss various thought-provoking topics, from on-stage interviews to an intimate dinner setting. With live music, artisan stalls, vintage fairground rides, banquet feasts and more, this is a festival that ignites the imagination.

When: Thursday 25th May to Sunday 4th June

Where: Hay-on-Wye

Perhaps the biggest event in the Herefordshire calendar, the Hay Festival aims to inspire its visitors and ignite new ways of thinking. With Nobel Prize winners, novelists, scientists, politicians, historians, environmentalists and musicians among the speakers, the Festival invites the latest thinking in art, culture and science.

When: Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th June

Where: Hellens Manor, Much Marcle, HR8 2LY

Celebrating sustainability, the Hellens Garden Festival is a celebration of people, plants and the planet. With creative exhibitions, sculpture trails, workshops, live music, poetry performances and forums, the festival inspires creativity throughout.

When: Saturday 17th to Sunday 25th June

Where: Various locations across Herefordshire

Taking place over nine days, the Herefordshire Walking Festival offers fifty walks to take part in that will take walkers across beautiful scenic spots throughout Herefordshire. From two-mile to twenty-five mile walks through various terrains, there are walks to suit everyone.

When: Saturday 26th to Monday 28th August

Where: Hereford

Try delicious foods at the Hereford Indie Food Festival from independent food and drinks businesses based in Herefordshire and further afield. Soak up the atmosphere and listen to live music, or browse the maker's market for a delicious treat to take home.
